The Charities Governance Code is a new mandatory Code which helps charities meet their legal obligations under the Charities Act 2009. It explains the minimum standards required to effectively manage and control the charity. It involves putting in place systems and processes to ensure that it achieves its charitable objectives with integrity and is managed in an effective, efficient, accountable and transparent way. The Charities Regulator will monitor compliance.

The Six Principles
The Charites Governance Code includes 6 principles and core standards which charities should apply and adhere to. The new Code is intended to provide support to charity trustees to meet their legal duties, by putting in place systems and processes which focus on advancing the charitable purpose and providing a public benefit and ensuring charities are managed in an effective, efficient, accountable and transparent way.
